E-luminated Books

E-luminated books is a 3-part paper circuitry workshop series developed in collaboration with Natalie Freed. In the sessions participants add light and choreograph interactivity in books. We ran the workshops monthly at San Fransisco Center for the Book from 2014-15. We also designed kits that were for sale at each workshop.

Part 1 was a workshop in lighting books with LEDs – experiments with light and switches and made some really beautiful tunnel books in a very short time. Here are some pictures of the amazing creations participants made.

Part 2 was focused on embedding sensors and coding simple programs for the Attiny85 to choreograph light.

Part 3 was based on pop-up switch mechanisms to add movement and play.
