Craft Connects
Community crafts and interactive book (2013)
Craft Connects is a collaboration with members of Farnborough Library commissioned by Farnham Maltings. The aim of the project was to create an interactive book that could live in the library, with different members of the community. I worked with the knitting group to create the cover, and made pages with groups of young people, and disabled people using the library.
We made a large pop-up book and recorded audio stories along the way which were embedded into the book, and could be activated using tactile switches with paper circuits, and listened to with a speaker inside the book.
Craft Connects
I am working on the Craft Connects residency in a library in Hampshire. The residency is all about connecting communities through craft, and I have been based at Farnborough Library (a colourful, bustling, learning space). I am making a giant pop-up book with different community groups. The book will be larger than life, have a knitted jacket, and (exciting) play sound bites through an embedded mp3 trigger. The book will be on display at the Festival of Craft, 19-20 October, Farnham Maltings. Currently, I am finishing the book, and sewing in circuits with conductive thread.
