Control Shift

Control Shift is a digital arts programme funded by Arts Council England that explores situated and embodied ways of relating to technologies.

In 2020 I worked with Martha King and Rod Dickinson to co-curate and produce an ambitious three-week hybrid digital arts festival in Bristol and online. The programme explored ways to reframe and rethink how we relate to technology in a time when machines increasingly collect information about us, reducing our bodies and the things around us to streams of data. Through the installations, workshops and events we rooted technologies in the body, materials, and emotions, artists included Naho Matsuda, MELT, Kathy Hinde, Heath Bunting, DANNAE, and a film programme curated by Russell Hlongwane.

The Control Shift network is a wider collective of digital artists, educators, producers, and technologists from Bristol (UK) and working internationally. We have an extended network of partners, funders, supporters and mentors including Knowle West Media Centre, Arnolfini, Watershed, Furtherfield, Aksioma, and Processing Foundation.
